Our island is home to remarkable, individual trees. Like us, each tree has its own personality, character, and story. Some stand tall in perfect symmetry, dressed in vibrant colors, while others bear the marks of wind, rocky soil, and the touch of human hands. Shaped by the island’s many microclimates, they wear unique bark patterns and grow in unexpected twists and turns. I am especially drawn to the “strugglers” — those that cling to the water’s edge or stretch determinedly toward the sun despite harsh conditions. My most recent works focus on isolating these trees, blurring or omitting their surroundings to mimic how the eye naturally rests on a subject. After eight years exploring every medium and never settling on just one, I now embrace them all — choosing whatever suits the moment, the landscape before me, the tools in my bag, and the time my life allows. Each portrait is a dialogue between the tree’s form and my own fleeting presence with them. I invite you to look closely, to feel the quiet resilience of these living beings, and to share your thoughts with me on my website.
